Brief Heat, Stormy Breakdown (Thursday 28th August 2008)

The summer is coming to an end over the weekend and it looks like we will end on a High (get it, High Pressure). We have drawn in some milder South-Westerly wind but the cloud trapped within this system has caused national depression :(

However, during parts of Friday and into Saturday, we are expecting some sunny breaks and maybe longer spells of sunshine. If this occurs, we could well see temperature reaching 27c or 28c locally. Sunday currently looks stormy.

Saturday

Saturday is looking cloudy once again in the North with some sunshine espected in the South and East later on in the day. Later on, there is a risk of some thundery showers across the West (Wales in particular). Temperatures are expected to respond with the sun in the South.

Highs of 19c to 22c in the North and 24c to 26c in the South (with 27c possible locally).

Sunday

Winds are expected to turn southerly which is likely to draw up unstable air from a shortwave feature. The morning projections indicate heavy thundery showers pushing up from the France into Southern England. These may turn into heavy thunderstorm pulses as they move into the Central England, South-East and East Anglia. Current conditions suggest some severe weather in these areas. It worth keeping an eye on this.

We will be issuing a detailed watch tomorrow, followed by flash warnings into Saturday and Sunday.

Highs of 18c to 20c in the North and 22c to 25c in the South.
